Quick answer
The Fenix ARB-L21-4000P is a protected 21700 Li-ion battery designed for Fenix lights that accept this cell size. Use only chargers rated for 21700 Li-ion cells, and confirm your light's compatibility before ordering.
Why the ARB-L21-4000P is more than a generic 21700
The ARB-L21-4000P includes a protection circuit in the anode to help prevent short circuits and over-discharge. That protection adds a layer of safety for high-drain lights, but it also means the cell is slightly longer than an unprotected 21700. Always check that your light and charger accommodate protected cells.
Compatibility: which Fenix lights use it
Fenix does not publish a single compatibility list for every model, so the safest approach is to check your light's manual or product page for '21700' or 'ARB-L21' battery compatibility. The ARB-L21-4000P is specifically noted for high-output lights like the LR35R, where it helps maintain turbo output by holding higher voltage for longer. If your light specifies a different battery model, do not substitute without confirming with Fenix support.
Charging: what you need to know
Charge the ARB-L21-4000P only in a charger designed for 21700 Li-ion cells. Many Fenix lights have built-in charging, but if you use an external charger, verify it supports the slightly longer protected cell. Avoid charging unattended, and do not use a charger that forces the cell in. For storage, keep the battery at around 50% charge and recharge every few months to preserve capacity.
Frequently asked questions
- Which Fenix lights use the ARB-L21-4000P?
- Fenix does not publish a complete list, but the ARB-L21-4000P is designed for lights that accept 21700 cells, such as the LR35R. Always verify your model's manual or product page for battery compatibility. Check your light's manual for '21700' or 'ARB-L21' before ordering.
- Can I use this battery in any 21700 flashlight?
- Not necessarily. Protected cells like this one are slightly longer and may not fit lights or chargers designed for unprotected cells. Only use it in lights explicitly rated for protected 21700 batteries. Measure your battery compartment if unsure; protected cells need extra length.
- How should I charge the ARB-L21-4000P?
- Use a Li-ion charger rated for 21700 cells. If your Fenix light has built-in charging, follow the light's instructions. Avoid charging unattended or with chargers that don't list 21700 support. Never force the battery into a charger; it should slide in smoothly.
- How do I know when to replace the battery?
- Replace the battery if runtime drops noticeably, if the cell shows physical damage, or if it no longer charges fully. The protection circuit helps prevent over-discharge, but age and heavy use still reduce capacity over time. Keep a spare ARB-L21-4000P for critical use so you're never caught with a depleted cell.
- Is the ARB-L21-4000P safe to store long-term?
- Store it at around 50% charge in a cool, dry place. Recharge every 3–6 months to avoid deep discharge. Do not store fully charged or fully depleted for extended periods. Set a calendar reminder to check stored batteries twice a year.
