Compare the Fenix C7 V2.0 and LR80R rechargeable flashlights: beam distance, output, size, and use cases. Find which fits your needs.
Quick Answer
Choose the Fenix C7 V2.0 if you need a compact, everyday-carry thrower with impressive reach. Choose the Fenix LR80R if you demand maximum brightness and extreme search capability in a larger, more powerful package.
The Core Difference: Size vs. Raw Power
The Fenix C7 V2.0 and LR80R serve very different roles. The C7 V2.0 is a dedicated thrower that prioritizes long-range visibility in a smaller, more portable body. The LR80R is Fenix's brightest flashlight, built for professional search and rescue where maximum output is non-negotiable.
If you need a light that fits in a jacket pocket or vehicle glovebox, the C7 V2.0's compact design is a clear advantage. If you're conducting wide-area searches or need to illuminate a vast space, the LR80R's 18,000 lumens provide the raw power you can't get from a smaller light.
Beam Distance and Practical Reach
Beam distance is a key metric for any flashlight, especially for outdoor and tactical use. The C7 V2.0 throws its 3300-lumen beam an incredible 1886 feet (575 meters)—over a third of a mile. That's outstanding for a light of its size.
The LR80R, however, pushes that distance much further, reaching 3,707 feet—more than 12 football fields. This extreme reach is what makes it a true search light for open terrain, maritime operations, or large industrial sites.
While the LR80R's reach is superior, it comes with the trade-off of a much larger and heavier body. The C7 V2.0 offers a practical balance for users who need long-range visibility without the bulk.
Trade-Offs at a Glance
- Portability: The C7 V2.0 is compact and easy to carry; the LR80R is larger and heavier, making it less convenient for everyday carry. Assess how often you'll carry the light vs. leave it in a vehicle or base.
- Brightness and Reach: The LR80R offers far more lumens and a longer beam, but the C7 V2.0 still provides impressive throw for its size. Consider the typical distances you need to illuminate—not just the maximum specs.
- Use Case Fit: Choose the C7 V2.0 for general outdoor, EDC, or vehicle use. Choose the LR80R for professional search, rescue, or large-scale operations. Match the light to the job, not just the specs.
