Compare the discontinued Fenix E35UE flashlight and HL50 headlamp. Find out which still makes sense to buy today based on brightness, battery, and form factor.
Quick answer
If you need a powerful handheld light, choose the Fenix E35UE for its 1000 lumens and dual battery compatibility. If hands-free use and compact carry matter more, the Fenix HL50 headlamp delivers 365 lumens with a detachable head.
Brightness and beam reach
The E35UE puts out 1000 lumens, making it far brighter than the HL50's 365 lumens. For tasks like searching a yard or lighting a trail ahead, the E35UE wins easily. The HL50's neutral white LED gives better definition in fog or dust, but its lower output limits range.
Battery flexibility vs convenience
Both lights can run on CR123A batteries, but the E35UE also accepts a single 18650 rechargeable cell. That means lower long-term cost and higher capacity for the E35UE. The HL50 sticks to CR123A only, which may be simpler for occasional users but pricier over time.
Trade-offs between the E35UE and HL50
- Brightness: E35UE offers 1000 lumens; HL50 offers 365 lumens. The E35UE is better for long-range illumination.
- Battery options: E35UE works with 18650 or CR123A; HL50 uses CR123A only. The E35UE gives you cheaper rechargeable power.
- Form factor: E35UE is a handheld flashlight; HL50 is a headlamp that converts to a handheld/keychain light. The HL50 is more versatile for hands-free tasks.
