Fenix HP25R V2.0 Rechargeable Headlamp Review: Dual Beam Versatility

When you spend long hours outdoors—whether you're camping, hiking, or working in low-light conditions—a reliable headlamp is non-negotiable. The Fenix HP25R V2.0 is designed to meet those demands with a thoughtful combination of power, versatility, and comfort. In this review, we'll dive into its dual beam system, battery performance, and overall usability to help you decide if it's the right headlamp for your adventures.

Fenix has long been a trusted name in portable lighting, and the HP25R V2.0 builds on that legacy with several upgrades over its predecessor. From the redesigned dual beam optics to the improved rechargeable battery, this headlamp promises to be a workhorse for outdoor enthusiasts. But does it live up to the hype? Let's find out.

Dual Beam System: Spot and Flood Combined

The standout feature of the HP25R V2.0 is its dual beam design, which combines a spot beam for long-range visibility and a flood beam for close-up tasks. This is a game-changer for outdoor activities where you need to switch between seeing far ahead and illuminating your immediate surroundings. The spot beam throws light up to 170 meters, making it ideal for night hiking or trail running, while the flood beam provides a wide, even spread for camping tasks like cooking or reading.

What's particularly impressive is the ability to use both beams simultaneously. This creates a combined beam that offers both distance and width, perfect for navigating unfamiliar terrain. With a total output of 1700 lumens, the HP25R V2.0 is one of the brightest headlamps in its class. The dual switches—one for each beam—allow for quick and intuitive control, so you can adjust your lighting without fumbling in the dark.

• Spot beam: 1700 lumens max, throws up to 170 meters
• Flood beam: provides wide, even illumination for close-up tasks
• Both beams can be used simultaneously for maximum visibility

Rechargeable Battery and Power Management

Powering the HP25R V2.0 is a custom 21700 rechargeable battery, which is included with the headlamp. This battery offers a generous capacity, allowing for extended runtimes even on higher output modes. For example, on the medium setting, you can get up to 12 hours of continuous use, which is plenty for a full night of camping or a long work shift. The battery is also USB-C rechargeable, so you can top it up using a power bank, laptop, or any standard USB port.

Fenix also provides a battery level indicator on the headlamp, so you always know how much juice is left. This is a thoughtful addition that prevents unexpected shutdowns. If you prefer to carry spare batteries, the HP25R V2.0 is compatible with Fenix ARB-L18-4000 Rechargeable Battery, which you can purchase separately. This gives you the flexibility to swap out batteries on the go, ensuring you never run out of light.

• Custom 21700 battery included; USB-C charging
• Battery level indicator for easy monitoring
• Compatible with Fenix ARB-L18-4000 Rechargeable Battery for extended use

Comfort and Build Quality

A headlamp is only as good as its comfort during prolonged wear. The HP25R V2.0 features a padded headband that distributes weight evenly across your forehead, reducing pressure points. The headband is also breathable, which helps during strenuous activities. The lamp housing is made from durable aluminum alloy, ensuring it can withstand drops and rough handling. It's also IP68 waterproof, meaning it can be submerged in up to 2 meters of water for 30 minutes—perfect for rainy hikes or accidental drops in puddles.

The adjustable tilt mechanism allows you to angle the light up or down, which is handy for reading maps or adjusting your beam on uneven terrain. Overall, the build quality is top-notch, as expected from Fenix. The headlamp weighs just 170 grams, so it won't weigh you down even during all-day wear.

• Padded, breathable headband for all-day comfort
• Aluminum alloy body with IP68 waterproof rating
• Adjustable tilt for precise beam direction

Versatility for Outdoor Activities

The HP25R V2.0 is designed to be a versatile companion for a wide range of outdoor activities. For campers, the flood beam is perfect for setting up a tent or cooking dinner, while the spot beam helps you navigate trails after dark. Hikers will appreciate the long throw and the ability to adjust brightness to conserve battery on longer treks. Even for everyday tasks like working under a vehicle or exploring a dark attic, this headlamp proves its worth.

If you're into cycling, you might also consider pairing the HP25R V2.0 with the Fenix BC45R Rechargeable Bike Light for a complete lighting setup. While the headlamp is great for hands-free illumination, a dedicated bike light ensures you're visible to others on the road. Similarly, the Fenix ALD-08 Helmet Bike Light Holder can be used to attach your headlamp to a helmet for added versatility. These accessories complement the HP25R V2.0 perfectly, making it a central piece in your lighting arsenal.

• Ideal for camping, hiking, and work tasks
